Choices

Overview

The project is aimed at families who have been evicted or are at risk of being evicted due to antisocial behaviour.

The Choices project works with families who have children under 18, to bring about positive changes in behaviour and reduce the risk of eviction and homelessness.

How can we help?

A project worker will work with the family to decide what kind of help they need. This could include:

  • parenting advice
  • one-to-one or group sessions
  • help with educational and training needs
  • money management advice
  • help with developing social and living skills
  • providing problem solving strategies
  • help dealing with conflict

Why Choices?

It is up to the individual – they don’t have to take part in the project. The housing officer or social worker will ask if they want to take part before a referral is made. Individuals can also self refer.

If the family works successfully with the project and there is a significant improvement in behaviour, eviction may be avoided. People who have already been evicted may be offered a route back into affordable housing. They could be allowed to register with Birmingham City Council and housing associations for accommodation.

What is expected?

  • a commitment to change
  • co-operation
  • to keep appointments and attend on time
  • to take an active part in the project
